Which Shampoo Products for Hair Loss?

Stop-Hair-Loss-With-Vitamins Shampoo Products for Hair Loss

Although many men suffer from hair loss, a rather serious and embarrassing problem, there is also many a hair loss product that offers solutions and prevention techniques, not the least of which are hair loss shampoos.

First, however, it’s important to know that no shampoo currently on the market has been scientifically proven to actually regrow or replace hair that is already lost by itself. Rather, when used as a supplemental product, the shampoo treats existing hair by making it grow thicker, stronger, healthier and, consequently, less prone to falling out. These shampoos can also help to rinse away some the chief chemicals responsible for thinning hair, and do not contain certain ingredients found in other commercial shampoos that are known to exacerbate the problem.

DHT-fighting shampoos use a variety of ingredients to target different problem areas. Most, if not all, have anti-DHT properties, as DHT is a common cause of hair loss in men. DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, is a naturally occurring byproduct of testosterone that binds to hair follicles, causing them to shrink. This results in weaker, thinner hair that is more susceptible to falling out and not regrowing. When enough of these follicles die off and are not replenished, this can eventually lead to baldness.

In an effort to combat this problem, hair loss shampoos use DHT blocking ingredients like zinc (a mineral), saw palmetto (an herbal supplement), and ketoconazole (a naturally occurring chemical). By reducing sebum build-up, these ingredients impede the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme, thereby decreasing DHT production and helping prevent it from attacking follicles. The result is a healthier scalp and, consequently, healthier hair. The less DHT is present, the less your hair is under attack, and the healthier it is.

In addition to promoting DHT, overproduction of sebum causes hair follicles to clog. Clogged follicles can become a breeding ground for harmful bacteria which cause scalp irritation and inflammation. This, in turn, inhibits healthy blood supply to the scalp, effectively preventing delivery of essential nutrients to hair roots. The resulting damage to hair can be severe and a major contributor to thinning hair in men.

Hair loss shampoos therefore contain a variety of ingredients that target this problem, such as lavender and tea tree oil. Lavender balances the scalp’s natural oil and thus prevents an overabundance of sebum. Lavender also nourishes hair roots and, by cooling the scalp, reduces inflammation. Tea tree oil steps in to support healthy circulation; the increased blood flow delivers nutrients to hair that help it grow thicker and stronger.

Other ingredients that invigorate the scalp and hair are aloe vera and menthol. Aloe vera’s combination of vitamins and minerals work to moisturize hair and increase volume, thereby preventing breakage common to dry, brittle hair and giving hair a fuller, thicker appearance. Menthol, like lavender, cools the scalp to keep inflammation at bay.

For healthy hair maintenance and prevention of future hair loss, many a shampoo emphasizes its vitamin and protein ingredients. Vitamins B-7 (biotin) and B-12, for example, are often credited with nourishing hair at the roots to make it grow faster and thicker. Proteins are vital for their numerous beneficial properties. Collagen, for instance, promotes hair elasticity. As a bonus, it can help control and even eliminate dandruff. Keratin, the main protein in hair, coats hair with a protective layer that keeps it properly hydrated and well-nourished. It works especially well in treating dry, brittle hair. Many scientists believe parabens commonly found in other shampoos are one of the main culprits behind male pattern baldness, so most of these DHT fighting shampoos do not have parabens or sodium laurel sulfate in their ingredients.

With the right ingredients, a shampoo can be an effective hair loss product. It may come as a relief to men suffering from male pattern balding to know they can fight the problem without taking drastic measures. With a simple lather, rinse and repeat, they can confidently face the future with a fuller head of hair. For more information about one hair product for men that includes a shampoo component, visit
